God of War performed impressively for Sony earlier in the year, but Marvel’s Spider-Man is on a different level. The superhero exclusive, in its second week on sale, retained the UK number one spot with a minuscule 42 per cent week-over-week decline, meaning that it’s already closing on the retail sales of Kratos’ latest – despite the latter being available since April.
This is also in spite of Shadow of the Tomb Raider bringing high profile competition. Sales of Lara Croft’s latest were best on the PlayStation 4, with the console commanding 63 per cent of the share, despite Microsoft having marketing rights. The new game outperformed Rise of the Tomb Raider’s release week by 25 per cent, but that game launched as an Xbox One exclusive, as you’ll probably recall.
The action adventure’s down 70 per cent compared to the first week of 2013’s series reboot, but it’s worth reiterating that Chart-Track only currently accounts for physical sales, so the digital numbers could alter the picture somewhat. Speaking of which, NBA 2K19 was the only other major new title to chart, with 65 per cent of its boxed sales coming from the PS4.
