Ryo Hazuki Recaps Shenmue’s Engrossing Storyline

In the latest of a string of Shenmue I & II promotional videos, SEGA’s roped in Ryo Hazuki’s voice actor Corey Marshall to offer some insight on the story. Yu Suzuki’s innovative adventure game is perhaps so beloved because it was one of the first games to really emphasise story-telling and cinematics – something that’s become much more common in recent years. The video’s designed more for newcomers than veterans of the franchise, but it’s really exciting to hear Marshall’s voice again – even if his performance in the games…

Almost Half of All PS4 Software Now Purchased Digitally

An increasing proportion of PlayStation 4 software is being purchased digitally through the PlayStation Store, as a Sony financial report shows that 43 per cent of full games were downloaded in the quarter that ended on 30th June. That’s the same ratio as the previous quarter, showing that consumers’ appetite for digital downloads has not declined. While it’s an impressive statistic, it’s perhaps worth noting that the increased prominence of PlayStation Store sales will be having an enormous impact on this data. While brand new retail games can be a…

PS Plus Subscribers Dip Slightly Compared to Previous Quarter

Sony lost around 300,000 PlayStation Plus subscribers in the quarter ending 30th June, with 33.9 million users maintaining an active membership, compared to 34.2 million earlier in the year. It’s not exactly a significant decrease, but considering one of the company’s primary goals is to retain subs, it won’t be overjoyed with these results. Of course, there are numerous reasons that could be attributed to the decline. Fortnite, for example, is the biggest multiplayer game in the world right now – and it doesn’t require an active PS Plus membership…

Donut County, a passion project about trash-eating raccoons, launches on PS4 next month

I’m really excited to announce that Donut County will be available on PlayStation Store on 28th August, with pre-orders available right now. It’s a game about raccoons who use holes to steal people’s trash. It’s a real passion project – I have been developing this game mostly on my own starting in 2012. Those who pre-order Donut County will get the “Throne Room” dynamic theme for free. I hope you’ll find the theme inspiring, yet relatable: Note: This is based on an actual scene in the game. I like dynamic…

Death Stranding Could Be a PS5 Game, Reckons Analyst

Everyone’s favourite industry analyst Michael Pachter reckons Death Stranding, the PlayStation 4 exclusive from Hideo Kojima, will end up being a cross-gen title. In other words, it’ll arrive on both PS4 and the inevitable PS5. “My bias is that [Sony] will also launch [PS5] in 2020, so no reason to announce any current generation exclusives other than the ones announced so far. Death Stranding will likely be a cross-generation title,” The Pach told GamingBolt. Indeed, the safest bet for PS5’s release year seems to be 2020. Taking Death Stranding’s development into account, it’s not unreasonable…

God of War has “significantly exceeded expectations” according to Sony’s chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki, who was talking during a financial conference call for investors in which the company increased its forecast for the current fiscal year. The suit also mentioned that some third-party titles have performed better than expected as well, although he stopped short of naming which ones. Venom Trailer #3 Unleashes Riot and an Army of Symbiotes

We have a brand new trailer for Venom. Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios a few years ago to finally allow for Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony, though, has not been content to just sit on their hands and collect the cast from the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Instead, they’re working on an entire spin-off universe, utilizing other characters from the world of Spider-Man, and that starts with Venom, which we now have a much better look at thanks to this new footage. With Venom…
